In 2015, Woomi requested that I summon her younger sister Woojin and herself as babies and send them to her parents in Seoul for the coming Lunar New Year’s Day. She lived in New York City at that time.
The painting was sent and her parents replied back with lots of mobile-recorded-video clips contain the time with the painting. Also, they sent bunch of pictures copied from old album which contains when Woomi and Woojin were young, saying it was memorable time bringing the old days.
“The Summoning Project: O Wommi Chung” is made up with video and photo album. The video shows what happened with painting when Lunar New Year’s Day 2015. The album contains photos that cross between time with the painting and the actual old times.
2015년 우미는 그녀와 동생의 모습을 어린시절 모습으로 소환해 돌아오는 설날에 맞춰 서울에 있는 부모님께 보내달라고 요청했다. 그때 당시 그들은 뉴욕에서 유학중이었다.
그림이 보내진 후 그녀의 부모님들은 핸드폰으로 찍은 그림과 함께한 시간이 담긴 많은 영상들을 보내주었다. 또한, 옛기억이 떠오르는 뜻깊은 시간이었다면서 오래된 앨범에서 찍은 우미와 우진의 어렸을적 모습이 담긴 사진들을 보내주었다.
“소환프로젝트: 정우미”는 비디오와 사진앨범으로 구성된다. 비디오는 2015년 설날에 그림과 함께한 시간을 기록한 것이며, 앨범은 옛 시절과 현재 그림과 함께했던 시간이 교차 편집되었다.
“소환프로젝트”는 참여자가 보고 싶어하는 누군가 혹은 무언가를 ‘그림’으로 소환하여 그 그림과 함께한 시간을 기록하는 ‘다큐멘팅’ 작업이다. ‘그리운 것을 그린다’라는 그림의 원초적 목적에 기초하여 나는 참여자가 그리워하는 대상을 그린다. 참여자에게 주어진 그림은 그들의 그리운 감정을 드러내고 일정부분 해소시켜 준다. 이 해우의 시간은 참여자 스스로 사진 혹은 영상으로 기록하고, 그 기록물은 협업의 대가로 나의 그림과 교환되어 최종 작품이 된다.
